INTRODUCTION

The Surapana Farm has been established more than fifty (50) years ago during the early days of GUYBAU (Guyana Bauxite) whose aim was to provide livestock products to employees at an affordable cost. In the not-too-distant past, production became challenging but at present it has greatly improved, especially in the poultry sector. Broilers (mixed breed) amount to 50,000 and layers (white Leghorn) 6,000. While in the swine sector, fattening stock (mixed breed) amount to 28 which is usually sold as meat and cured ham. The farm is about 15 hectares in area and managed by Mr. Orin Gordon and Assistant Manager (Production) Ms. Lorraine Duke.

The travelling distance from Central Georgetown to Surapana Farm is 111 km (69 miles) .
